Will Los Angeles Vote for What’s Best for LA or Out of Loyalty to the Democrat Party?

by Terry Newton
May 11, 2026
in Original, Podcasts

Los Angeles voters face a question on June 2 that has nothing to do with national politics and everything to do with whether the city survives the decade. The June 2 primary is winner-take-all if any candidate clears fifty percent plus one vote. Spencer Pratt, the second-generation Angeleno and Palisades Fire victim currently polling in second place behind embattled incumbent Karen Bass, has a narrow but real path to that threshold. Forty percent of the electorate is still undecided. The math is sitting there waiting for someone to do it.

And here is the uncomfortable question hovering over every honest voter in the city: Is Los Angeles in such good shape that loyalty to the Democrat Party should outweigh loyalty to the city itself?

The answer is obvious to anyone who has driven through Skid Row, watched the Palisades burn while the mayor was in Ghana, or read the latest hospice fraud indictments. The only remaining question is whether Angelenos will admit it at the ballot box.

  • The Los Angeles mayoral primary on June 2, 2026 is a winner-take-all contest if any candidate exceeds fifty percent plus one vote, with no runoff required.
  • Recent UCLA Luskin polling shows Karen Bass at 25 percent, Spencer Pratt at 11 percent, and roughly 40 percent of voters still undecided.
  • Pratt won the first televised debate decisively, with 89 percent of online respondents declaring him the winner over Bass and Councilwoman Nithya Raman.
  • Bass remains under sustained criticism for being abroad during the Palisades Fire and for drained fire-protection reservoirs that worsened the disaster.
  • Raman, a Democratic Socialists of America ally, attacked Pratt as a “MAGA candidate” during the debate, a label Pratt rejected by noting the race is officially nonpartisan.
  • Pratt has explicitly disavowed national political ambitions and operates without a campaign manager, consultants, or party-machine backing.
  • Los Angeles faces a massive structural budget deficit, expanding homelessness, a hospice fraud scandal, and entrenched insider contracting practices.
  • Los Angeles has not elected a Republican mayor since Richard Riordan left office in 2001.
  • The argument for Pratt is not partisan conversion but a one-election decision to prioritize the city over party loyalty.

The Record Bass and Raman Cannot Defend

Karen Bass was elected in 2022 promising to address homelessness and housing. Three years later, encampments have metastasized, the homeless-industrial complex consumes billions with little to show, and the city’s structural deficit threatens core services. Then came the Palisades Fire. The mayor was out of the country. Fire-protection reservoirs had been drained. Entire neighborhoods burned to the ground while City Hall offered press conferences and advisory committees. One year later, Bass announced that “over 400 homes” were under construction. Roughly seven thousand structures were destroyed.

Nithya Raman occupies the council seat to Bass’s left, which is geographically and ideologically impressive given how far left Bass already sits. Raman has been endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America. Her solution to fentanyl-driven street homelessness is more housing offers, more services, more spending.

When Pratt suggested during the debate that he would walk under the Harbor Freeway with her to meet the population she proposes to help, and predicted she would be assaulted within minutes, he was making a point that every LAPD officer and emergency room nurse in the city already knows. The population dying on the sidewalks is not waiting for a key to an apartment. They are waiting for the next hit.

Raman’s response to Pratt in the debate was telling. She did not defend her record. She called him a MAGA candidate. That is the entire Los Angeles Democrat playbook in 2026 distilled to a single accusation. The city is collapsing, and the answer from its progressive class is to invoke a national bogeyman.

Why Pratt Is the Strongest Candidate in the Field

Pratt is a registered Republican, and his opponents will not let voters forget it. What they will not say is that he is not a national Republican, not a culture warrior, and not a Trump surrogate. He has stated plainly that he will “never do” national politics. He has no campaign manager, no political consultants, and no party apparatus behind him.

At last, a conservative news aggregator that does not bow to the woke right.

He lost his home in the Palisades Fire. He and his wife are still living in a mobile home while Bass and Raman occupy mansions. His campaign emerged from the ashes of his own neighborhood, not from a donor class looking for a useful vehicle.

His debate performance was not a fluke. Eighty-nine percent of online respondents declared him the winner. He spoke with the directness of a man who has watched the city’s failures consume his own family rather than the rehearsed cadence of a career politician auditioning for the next office. As Pratt himself put it after the debate, “I’m being very strategic to win and save LA, but there’s no strategy when you’re standing in an Airstream on your burned out town. You can’t fake that.”

The Case for Crossover Voting

There are reasons beyond the failures of his opponents for Democrats and independents to give Pratt serious consideration on June 2.

The corruption embedded in Los Angeles governance is not partisan, but it is one-party. Decades of single-party rule have produced an insider’s club where non-competitive contracts, sweetheart deals, and automatic renewals are standard operating procedure. The hospice fraud scandal is only the latest exposed layer. A mayor with ties to the current establishment, however well-intentioned, inherits those entanglements by proximity. Pratt has none. He cannot protect networks he never joined.

A non-Democrat in the mayor’s office would also restore something Los Angeles has not had in a generation, which is institutional friction. The City Council will remain overwhelmingly Democrat regardless of who wins. A Pratt administration would not impose Republican policy on a hostile council. It would, however, place someone in the executive willing to expose what the council would prefer to keep buried. That alone is worth a vote.

And there is the matter of competence under pressure. Bass was abroad during the worst urban disaster in modern Los Angeles history. Pratt was in the wreckage of his own neighborhood. Voters can decide which of those instincts they want occupying the mayor’s office the next time the wind picks up and the hillsides are dry.

You may have noticed some conservative sites and shows have dropped MyPillow as a sponsor. They’re getting more money from others so they cast Mike Lindell aside. We will NOT stop supporting MyPillow or MyStore. Please use promo code “JDR” to support them AND us.

One Election, One City

This article is not an attempt to convert Democrats into Republicans. The voters of Los Angeles are who they are, and their long-term political identities are their own. The argument is narrower and more urgent. In this single election, with this particular field, under these specific circumstances, party loyalty produces a worse outcome than civic loyalty. A vote for Bass is a vote for the status quo that produced the Palisades catastrophe. A vote for Raman is a vote for an ideology that has already failed everywhere it has been tried. A vote for Pratt is a vote for the city itself.

Scripture frames the civic obligation with unusual clarity. The prophet Jeremiah, writing to exiles living in a city not their own, instructed them to “seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.” The principle cuts in every direction. The welfare of the city is the welfare of its residents. A vote cast for tribal loyalty over civic welfare is a vote against one’s own neighborhood, one’s own family, one’s own future.

Angelenos do not have to become Republicans on June 2. They only have to be Angelenos first. The party will still be there in November. The city, if current trends continue, may not be.

Starting the Day With a Scripture-Inspired Roast Helps Center Your Thoughts on Eternal Truths Amid Temporal Pressures

The world can seem chaotic, especially right after we wake up. Many believers start their mornings reaching for something familiar — a hot cup of coffee — yet end up settling for mediocre brews that do little more than deliver a caffeine jolt. The daily grind of life, with its endless distractions, news cycles, and responsibilities, can leave even the most faithful feeling spiritually parched alongside their physical fatigue. What if your morning ritual could do more than wake you up? What if it could ground you in truth, nourish your body with exceptional quality, and quietly advance a kingdom purpose at the same time?

That’s the promise — and the reality — behind Promised Grounds Coffee. This Christian-founded company doesn’t just roast beans; it approaches every step as an act of worship and discipleship. By selecting only the top 10% of specialty-grade beans, ethically sourced from dedicated farmers in Central and South America, and small-batch roasting them with reverence in Austin, Texas, Promised Grounds delivers what many describe as the best coffee available — never burnt, never bland, but rich with origin stories and layered flavors that honor God’s creation.

From the vibrant Psalm 27 Roast (a light, bright medium option) to the bold yet peaceful 2 Timothy 1:7 Decaf, each bag carries a Scripture verse that turns your daily pour into a gentle reminder of faith. And through their Ounce Per Ounce Promise, every ounce of coffee you enjoy provides an equal ounce of clean water to families in need via partnership with Filter of Hope — literally brewing hope for body and soul, one cup at a time.

The challenge for today’s Christians runs deeper than finding a decent cup. In an age of convenience-driven consumerism, it’s easy to support companies that dilute values or remain silent on matters of faith. Many believers want their everyday choices — from what they drink to how they spend — to reflect discipleship rather than just convenience. Promised Grounds solves this by weaving Christian excellence into the entire process: beans nurtured with prayerful stewardship by farming families, roasted as an offering rather than a commodity, and packaged with Bible verses to encourage a mindset of gratitude and purpose from the first sip. Reviewers consistently praise the smooth, rich profiles — whether enjoyed black in a drip maker, iced on a warm day, or shared in fellowship — noting how the quality stands toe-to-toe with premium secular brands while delivering something far more meaningful.

This integration of faith and flavor addresses a real need in Christian households and ministries. Busy parents, church leaders, and remote workers alike report that starting the day with a Scripture-inspired roast helps center their thoughts on eternal truths amid temporal pressures. The coffee’s exceptional character — bright citrus notes in lighter roasts or deep chocolate undertones in bolder ones — comes from meticulous selection and careful roasting that respects the bean’s natural gifts rather than masking them. It’s the kind of coffee that elevates a simple quiet time, fuels productive workdays, or sparks meaningful conversations when shared at Bible studies or outreach events. And because it’s ethically sourced with integrity, every purchase supports sustainable livelihoods for farmers who treat their crops like family harvests.

For those leading churches or small groups, the impact multiplies. Promised Grounds offers bundles and options perfect for hospitality ministries, turning ordinary coffee service into an opportunity to point people toward the living water of Christ. Imagine greeting visitors with a warm cup whose very bag carries God’s Word — a subtle yet powerful witness that aligns with the Great Commission. The company’s Texas roots and commitment to “brewing hope” resonate especially with believers who value American enterprise paired with global compassion.

Of course, quality alone isn’t enough if the experience feels out of reach. Promised Grounds keeps it accessible with practical perks like free shipping on orders over $40, sample sets for discovering favorites, and thoughtful add-ons such as faith-themed mugs. Whether you prefer whole beans for fresh grinding, grounds for convenience, or even bulk options for larger households and ministries, the result is consistently superior coffee that makes discipleship feel integrated rather than added on.

As you consider how to align even the smallest habits with your walk with God, Promised Grounds Coffee stands out as a refreshing solution. It tackles the dual problems of subpar daily sustenance and disconnected consumption by offering a product that genuinely excels in taste while advancing a mission of clean water, farmer dignity, and scriptural encouragement. Believers who make the switch often describe it as more than a beverage upgrade — it becomes part of their rhythm of gratitude, a daily invitation to remember that every good gift comes from above.

If you’re ready to transform your mornings (and perhaps your church gatherings) with coffee that honors both exceptional craftsmanship and Christian values, I encourage you to explore what Promised Grounds has to offer. One sip at a time, you’ll be nourishing your body, refreshing your spirit, and participating in something far greater — all while enjoying what truly is among the best coffee available.
