Mencken, “is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.” Whatever truth is in this witticism was laid bare by the recent political comedy surrounding Martha’s Vineyard and its ever-so-brief encounter with “diversity,” courtesy of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The good people of Martha’s Vineyard are the kind who vote, but never pay the bill for their stupid, reckless ideas.
